They seem to be easy to drive - you lean forward to go forwards and lean back to go backwards. As well as to turn you lean the handle bar to the left or right.The motor decelerates when you need to brake. They seem easy enough to drive for teens of course up middle age group and the old and disabled.
The Segway Scooter was revealed on Dec 3 2001,and since then have had recalls to upgrade the computer in the Segway. Segway discontinued all models in Aug 2006 and made a whole new generation of Segways. Over all the Segway Scooter seems to be a great way to get around,being able to use them on sidewalks and bicycle lanes. It also has been said that you can use them in some theme parks.

I rode one on a tour in Paris recently and had an absolute blast. I would definitely buy one if I could afford it as my daily commute to work. A 20 minute bus ride I could do in 8-10 minutes if I didn't have to go down all those side streets the bus takes!

The segway scooter is a great thing to buy but it is still too expensive for most people. I was lucky to be offered a loan to be paid over 6 months, but its hard to pay all the money at once.
I tried one in Savannah Georgia, I want to go back and rent one to really get feel for it on the road (edge), but I have had an itch to buy one. I can't at this time so i will wait, maybe the price will come down if people catch on to how they can improve our ecology as well as our fitness as they seem to be like a downhill ski machine.
It seem sludicrous that the Segway costs so much. As someone pointed out the prices ex China (where I would bet all the high priced Segways are probably manufactured anyway)are more realistic. I the higher the turnover of product the cheaper it became.. seems it does not apply to the Segway, no wonder the product has made NO true impact on the market world wide. Come on segway company strt pricing for sales not snob value.
Buy a Bike. Even an electric bike goes faster and costs way less than half..

Id love one but they are and always will be way to expensive to own That old analogy they will get cheaper as they get more and more out there. Is bullshit. They charge such an unreasonable amount for there products only the very well person could afford to purchase one which is sad. The owners of the Segway are apparently very greedy
As a person with severe osteoarthritis - I wish that I had the funds to get myself on one of these marvelous personal trasnportation devices. When I first saw the TV special about them - I was absolutely amazed and then determined to go and test-ride one. Although I have not
done that yet - it's definately on my "THINGS TO DO BEFORE WINTER" list (so I've got to get busy and get on with my wish). I can just imagine moving around without all the discomfort which walking brings - so I'VE GOTTA CHECK IT OUT - I'LL LET Y'ALL KNOW HOW I LIKE IT LATER.
I think it is a great invention for people that have true difficulties walking, not for lazy people who cant be bothered to walk. I think if you have the capability of walking well, you should be gratefull and enjoy the fact that you are completley fortunate! If i was the owner i would make a discount for people with disabilities, as it is a great way for them to move around without having to be sitting down all day like with a walking chair, maybe £500-700, not more, and then maybe a little higher for normal people, coz if everyone had one, everyone would be lazy shit. But to have to pay 5-7k is bullshit.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and am FAR from lazy. However, both legs have serious issues. My hips, knees, and one ankle should be repaired/replaced. The segway would be a blessing ~~ if it was only affordable!

I just can't imagine that it costs that much to build. I'm assuming their mark up is well over 1,000%. What do you guess it cost to build one...maybe $500, and they charge 5-7K. What a freaking joke. Sagway brass needs to pull their heads out of their butts.

To all who whine about the price of Segways: LISTEN UP - there will always be expensive things out there. There will always be things you want but can't afford to buy. Deal with it. The fact that the price of a Segway is beyond your ability to pay is NOT an indictment of the product. You get what you pay for. There are knock-offs out there that cost a lot less, but they're cheaply made and don't have the functionality of a Segway, as you'll quickly learn if you buy one. But the take-away of all this is that anytime people want something they can't afford, they find all sorts of imagined things wrong with it. This behavior is silly and immature, and speaks very poorly of them as a group.
Hey, "smith" - does your "electric bike" balance itself? Segways do. Does your "electric bike" have regenerative braking, meaning, when you slow down, the motor(s) send recharging current back to the batteries? I didn't think so. Segways do.

I have Multiple sclerosis, and have trouble walking too far,so would love to get a Segway. To me, it's the modern wheelchair. Look how far cell phones & computors have come. No-one wants to be in a wheelchair, but look how many want a Segway (even able bodied people!) In NZ they cost $9000 to $13000, so are really & truely expensive here! It would be marvellous on a vacation we are planning to take soon to the USA, as it would save my energy and I could keep pace with my husband.
